COG Mail Migration

Migration Plan

This page is the starting point for moving existing users to COG Mail.

The migration process will eventually cover:

  • Email migration through IMAP
  • Contacts migration through CardDAV or VCF import
  • Calendar migration through CalDAV or ICS import
  • DNS review and cutover

Security Rule

This portal should not collect hosting control panel passwords directly. Prefer OAuth, provider API tokens, app passwords, IMAP credentials, or user-guided DNS changes.

Current Manual Migration Checklist

  1. Confirm the target mailbox exists in COG Mail.
  2. Test COG Mail login at https://cogmail.tech/mail/.
  3. Identify current provider from MX records.
  4. Migrate mail using IMAP-to-IMAP.
  5. Export/import contacts using VCF or CardDAV where available.
  6. Export/import calendars using ICS or CalDAV where available.
  7. Update DNS records to point to cogmail.tech.
  8. Verify mail, calendar, and contacts on phone and desktop clients.

Next Build Step

The next version should add a domain checker that performs live DNS lookups from the server. After that, add provider detection for Cloudflare, GoDaddy, Bluehost, HostGator, Google, and Microsoft.
